How To Make A Film

We’re launching a new series. How To Make A Film will be a digital series of interviews and learning resources, which will culminate in a physical and digital publication exploring socially-engaged moving image making. Part instruction manual, part manifesto, the series and publication will explore the practicalities of, and make the case for, socially-engaged moving image work.

How To Make A Film will cover all bases, from idea generation, to researching, developing, finding funding, making treatments/teasers, pitching, speaking to commissioners, finding collaborators, getting your work seen, distribution, etc.

Each episode we’ll interview an artist or activist we really respect, and ask their advice as well as more big-picture questions like how they approach the filmmaking process, ethics, working with different communities, and anything else you wanna know about.

Tell us who you’d like to hear from

We’re really keen that the resource reflects the needs and interests of the wider community, and helps us all learn from each other. Please take a minute to complete the short survey below and help us shape the project to your needs and interests!
